When a promsing young Minister dies a mysterious death down in Margate, it is Caulfield-Browne, the Junior Under-Secretary for Interior Affairs, who is tasked with overseeing the investigation. Unfortunately, the indolent young man quickly convinces Lionheart and Dunning that there's little more to him than snooker and snifters down at The Drones Club. But when the chips are down, he surprises them with an unexpected display of usefulness.

Having proved his worth on the Denge Marsh case, Caulfield-Browne is assigned to be the permanent government liasion with MI-13.
